Cedar Street from William Street (1936). In the foreground, aside from the photobombing cop, we see 67-69 William St, known as the Queen Building.  Completed in 1897, it was the headquarters of the Queen Insurance Company of America, and housed a series of financial institutions over the ensuing decades (a few months after Abbott’s photograph the Anglo-Prague Credit Bank moved into this location).

The Queen Building was spared the “Great Clearing” that accompanied the construction of One Chase Manhattan Plaza, the headquarters of the Chase Manhattan Bank, and is now a mixed-use building.  Meanwhile, One Chase Manhattan Plaza became 28 Liberty St in 2015, with the attached plaza becoming Fosum Plaza.
